The M.A.T.T., for Monospace Amphibie Tout-Terrain (=4WD amphibian monospace), is a large vehicle for passenger, transportation, goods and at private or business applications according to equipments.
The Monocoque Concept The MATT's unique design consists in it's monocoque body mounted on an extreme torsion 4WD frame.
It's performance derives from TWI's engineered union of the body with the Daimler-Chrysler UNIMOG chassis. This concept unites the comfort and modularity of a very large passenger vehicle with a heavy duty off road base.
The MATT is a heavy-load utility vehicle built on the UNIMOG frame. The worldwide Daimler-Chrysler / Mercedes-Benz support guarantees the availability of spare parts everywhere in the world. Some original innovations Its pressurised monocoque cell allows it to float, and endure the worst athmospheric conditions. In its amphibious version, it can work in the lakes, rivers and seas, thanks to its propellers.
General Characteristics
Equipment - AC, heating, pressurization, oxygen generator - Water tanks 2 x 250 litres - Ground and sea navigation devices - Front winch and hghi-pressure hydraulic washer - Roof hatch - Engine access from inside - Coupling for trailor - Tire pressure control while in motion - 360° orientable propellers 2 x 120 CV (amphibious version) - 1 or 2 generators 15 to 20 CV
Highlights Polyvalent The monocoque architecture with planar faces allows for several interior settings, including shield-body support. The flat floor and hatchback permit the loading of light vehicles. In coach configuration, the modular interior space rooms up to 15 passengers in the bests conditions.
According to the desired usage, the MATT can be equipped with specific tires: road, sand, tow, low ground pressure/big volume. The inflating/deflating function on each tire in motion can distribute the weight depending on the nature of the ground. Some specific rims permit flat rolling in emergency situations or can even be equiped with an anti-mine mechanism.
Long Range Two aeronautic-type tanks feed the OM924 engine, the generators,
and heating. Their own pumps also provide for the stabilization of the
vehicle's center of gravity when crossing a body of water.
High-Elasticity Frame The high ground clearance of the axles allow the MATT to cross 0.5 m (=20 inches) high obstacles. The tolerance of frame twisting admits up to 30°
per axle, and allows for large vertical motion of the wheels. The similar components of the front and
rear axles reduces the amount of spare parts needed for long missions. Proven Gear Box This gear box allows for speeds for both road and off-road use. It is silent, of a long life, and has high ratios. The transfer case is integrated, with a link to the transmission tube. It lets the axles twist independently.
The 4 cylinder engine OM924 Daimler-Chrysler affords an optimized power/toque ratio. It does not lack qualities : The two level engine brake reduces wear on the brakes. Major maintenance can be spaced between 1 200 hours or 30 000 km. Low noise level and reduced exhaust gas (Euro 3 class and Euro 4 class in 2006)
Aeronautic-Type Cockpit
The cockpit integrity is insured by perfect waterproofing. The doors are equiped with inflatable seals in fabric silicone. They stay fully operational even under very cold temperatures.
Amphibious On sea and river, MATT is maneuverable and fast. In its amphibious version, it moves thanks to two 360° directional propellers.
All the engine power feeds the propellers through the proper hydraulic pump. The generators can power the hydraulic pump in case of emergency. A door behind driver's seat provides access to the sealed engine from inside the cockpit in the event of an emergency, and a hatch leads to the roof.
